Rookley House   Little sombornePlus    HampshirePlus

Detailed Description

As you drive past it is very difficult to notice the house due to the high walls used for privacy. But what made it easy to spot was the gothic facade poking over the top of the walls. As you walk in the driveway, which takes you to the side of the house, you are presented with a gothic facade which has been rendered and the rest of the house which is contrasting red brick. It looks like someone has built the house and then stuck on the facade. And looking at Pevsner this was indeed what was done. The house was built in the 18th century and the facade was added in the 19th century. The front facade has five bays with the centre being a broad canted bay. This facade which has been added adds a more uniqueness and entity about it.
